I’m so happy to be Metalsmithing with students at Artworks Center for Contemporary Art! Some of you remember working in my garage, which was brilliant and fun when I could open the garage and we could feel the breeze but it was misery in July and torture in December - March. The new studio is climate controlled with great lighting. It’s kind of dreamy.
I have been dedicating most of my free time to learning enameling on copper and steel in the kiln. Enameling is one of those techniques that is super easy to do, but can be a lifetime of learning. There’s so much room for experimentation. When I first learned enameling in college, I had the attention span of a gnat and found the tedious cleaning of metal so boring I could cry. Fast forward 25 years and I’m finding it way easier (thanks to Kirsten Denbow, Sharon Massey, and Bette Barnett for enamel hacks and tricks to make it so much more efficient and fun).
Look for enameling classes coming soon in the new space! I’m hoping to post an earring class in March!
